Harvest House Food Pantry

Our monthly food pantry is a food giveaway for Pocahontas County residents that meet income-eligible guidelines. Each amount of food distributed is based on the size of the household and the food available varies each month. The food is provided from Mountaineer Food Bank, as well as, donations from community members and organizations. The food giveaway occurs at our Harvest House Food Pantry located in a large metal building at the end of 3rd Avenue past Southern States in Marlinton.

Our next giveaway is November 18th, 2020 from 9:00am-12:00pm and 1:00pm-3:00pm.
Baby Pantry and ABC Class

Our monthly baby pantry is part of our About Babies and Children Class. This class is for parents or guardians that have a child or children in diapers or pull-ups. Each class features a guest speaker presenting on various topics related to Strengthening Families 5 Protective Factors: 1. Parent Resilience, 2. Knowledge of Parenting and Child Development, 3. Social and Emotional Competence of Children, 4. Social Connections, and 5. Concrete Support in Times of Need. Each participating family will receive diapers and wipes after the class is complete. Depending on availability, other baby and toddler essential items are also available for giveaway, but this varies each month.

Due to COVID-19, the structure of the classes have temporarily changed. Please contact Kendra Taylor for information regarding upcoming classes.

Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention

As a community team with Partners in Prevention, we utilize the 5 Protective Factors to strengthen families and keep children safe. The Strengthening Families 5 Protective Factors are: 1. Parental Resilience, 2. Knowledge of Parenting and Child Development, 3. Social and Emotional Competence of Children, 4. Social Connections, and 5. Concrete Support in Times of Need. These factors are the focus of our family events- including ABC Classes, Community Baby Shower, Snuggle and Read, our Annual Easter Egg Hunt, and more events to come. By educating families on these factors and ensuring that they have the skills and resources to utilize these skills, the likelihood of abuse and neglect is reduced.

Due to COVID-19, all events are temporarily postponed or cancelled.
